Born at the start of the fifties while ration books were still being used and raised on Jazz, Pop and American Rock n' Roll I was addicted to music by the time I was 5 years old. I loved the look and the sound of the electric guitar and appreciated close vocal harmonies as much as a bar of Fry's chocolate.
The sixties brought the Beatles and American soul music and a lust to perform. My first opportunity came when I got a job as lead vocalist in a covers band with some other guys from my secondary school around '65 and by '66 I was playing regularly singing American soul covers. The end of the sixties saw me change to rock covers which I stuck with until '75 when I realised that fame and fortune had probably passed me by and I needed to be in Scotland to take care of my young family.
From that point on I took care of lead vocals and guitar in a popular function band until on a spring break in Lanzarote I got up to play with a local solo musician, the best by far in Playa Blanca at the time called Gazza, who I had become friendly with. Giving me a boost to my ego and an idea in my head, the bar boss offered me as much work as I wanted if I should ever decide to come to the Island.
The choice was easy, returning to the bleak British weather and pressure of work made it easy to decide on a change of venue. Being sad only at leaving friends and family, my wife and I packed up and shipped out to Lanzarote where we have enjoyed an easier and healthier style of living since 2003. I have experienced some incredible audiences over the years and have made a lot of fast friends of tourists, many of whom return time and time again. Playing larger venues like the Lighthouse in Costa Teguise where you can have more than two hundred holiday makers a night looking for some fun and entertainment makes the job even more enjoyable. On the other other hand playing the smaller venues with a more intimate relationship with the audience is almost like being at a party with friends
Sadly, life moves on and both Linda and myself reluctantly came to the conclusion that we should return to our home country of Scotland. I have since picked up with some musicians and can still be found around the Glasgow region playing all the old Scottish favourites in a covers band.
HOLA
Hello or “Hola” as we would say in Lanzarote and welcome to my Website.
I used to perform in clubs and bars around the Island of Lanzarote with tracks from great rock classics through to modern pop. We have now left the Island, returning to my Scottish homeland but my music lives on with tracks for your pleasure on U Tube.
